David Gyertson was born in Toronto, Canada. He is Associate Provost and Dean of the Beeson School of Practical Theology at Asbury Theological Seminary. He has previously served as headmaster of Maranatha High School in Pasadena, Calif. and as distinguished professor of leadership formation and renewal at Regent University in Virginia. He was a founding team member of the university in 1977 and returned as president in 1990. He holds a Ph.D. from Michigan State University with a concentration in higher education administration and management. Gyertson served as president of Asbury University (Kentucky) and Taylor University (Indiana). He is an ordained minister and a flotilla staff officer with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. Gyertson and his wife, Nancy, is a retired elementary school teacher. They have one daughter, Andrea, and two grandchildren, Emma and Justin. The Gyertsons live in Lexington, Ky.
